One of the Stars

Chinese artist Wang Keping was one of the Stars movement in the late 1970's in Beiging.
He made these wonderfully sensual sculptures by cutting straight into huge tree trunks.

By chance

Paper hole punchings picked up at work last week. I got very excited when I noticed the atlas shape they made when I emptied them out

Le Louvre

Went back to visit the egyptology section which I haden't seen since I was very little and was completely and absolutely blown away. No point posting plenty of pictures or writing all about it, this is just to say 'go there if you get the chance, its beautiful'!

Today

Today, I experienced first hand the Marylin Monroe move while walking back from lunch

Although certainly not as gracefuly, more in a clumsy, accidental sort of way!

Solstice

Today is summer solstice, the longest day/shortest night of the year.

The Doladalur Daylight Series by Olaffur Eliasson seem like a good way to celebrate this!

DREAMLANDS

Dreamlands exhibition at the Centre Pompidou, shows the influence of utopic wonderland models like those of World Fairs or amusement parcs on urban planing.

The most fascinating part for me was Walt Disney's mad vision of EPCOT back in 1966:

Georges

*

This is the Centre de Dane du Marais where I've been dancing for the past 2 weeks. They have beautiful painted ceilings which you can't see very well in this picture but I will take more and better ones soon.

The dance is contemporary dance, using the Martha Graham technique:

Metro-mouse

*

Funny little mouse scavenging from the Metro dustbins. I found out there is a similar one living in the corner of my bedroom.

Soon I will have posted the whole food chain, only missing the little scum beasts eaten by the mice? hmm..

Zuber Cie

Today on the job I went to drop off some samples at Zuber who have been making handmade wallpapers since 1797 (!)

The panoramas like the ones bellow are made up of over 50 "lés" (strips of wallpaper) and each detail and layer of colour is made by a differently sculpted stamp (like above) which date back to when the wallpapers were first made.

And each one takes........ 1 year to make

à Paris

I am now in Paris for 5 weeks and should soon have the wifi figured out to start updating properly.....

This weekend was 'Designer's Day' in Paris which means that many galeries and showrooms were open all weekend. I went to see all the showrooms in the 7e and saw BOFFI which are beautiful!

* this is one of their bathtubs!

...............

In the meantime I'm exploiting the Centre Pompidou free wifi so I decided that I should honour them in some way - here are some pictures which I took here last summer
